Illness Policy

When a child becomes too sick to participate in regular activities or shows symptoms of contagious disease, parents will be contacted to take their child home. If the parent cannot be reached, the emergency contact person will be called. The following symptoms will be considered evidence of communicable disease.

  • FEVER ~If temperature is over 99 degrees or higher if the child acts tired, listless or out of sorts. Temperature must be normal for 72 hours before returning

  • RASH ~Until the cause has been determined by a physician or designated health care professional to be non-contagious.

  • Sore throat or persistent cough

  • Red or watery eyes, or conjunctivitis

  • Upset stomach, vomiting of diarrhea

  • Any draining sores

  • Difficulty breathing/shortness of breath

  • Headache

  • Congestion or running nose

  • Ringworm, scabies, head lice etc.

  • Any and all communicable diseases

  • A child who has had any infectious diseases may not be readmitted to class until a physician provides a written statement that the child is no longer contagious

All cases of infectious diseases must be reported to our office IMMEDIATELY so that other parents can be notified to watch for early symptoms. The child’s name will not be shared in the notification. A child must remain at home until the infectious period has ended.

Allergies…Allergies…Allergies

The office requires a written notification of all allergies your child may have from a physician. This statement must include: The name of the substance /cause of the allergy, the severity of the allergy, any emergency procedures if necessary, and any substitutions needed in the food program, if necessary.

Medication…Medication…

Please hand all prescription and non-prescription medications to the receptionist or Director in our office. Please notify us if a medication needs to be refrigerated, otherwise, it will be placed in a locked cabinet. The following provisions must apply in order for any medications to be administered by our staff:

  1. A MEDICATION AUTHORIZATION FORM must be signed by the doctor and the parent for all prescription and non-prescription medications.

  2. Prescription medicine shall have the original pharmacy label indicating the physician name, instructions, along with the drug name and strength.

  3. Medication shall be given to the child listed on the label and will be given in accordance to the labeled instructions.

  4. The medication must be in it’s original container.

  5. The dosage for non-prescription medications shall not exceed the labeled instructions for the particular age of the child.

Accidents & Emergency Information

Every parent is required to complete two copies of the CHILD INFORMATION RECORD. Every space on the cards must be completely filled in. When an accident or injury occurs which requires professional attention, the information on the child information record is utilized to contact the parent[s], or the emergency contact person if the parent[s] cannot be reached.

In the event of accident or injury requiring immediate medical attention, an ambulance will be called and the child will be transported to the nearest hospital [determined by ambulance driver] a staff member will accompany the child to the hospital and wait until the parent arrives. The teacher will inform parents of any minor injuries that occur while a child is at school and an accident/injury report will be filed.

Immunizations & Physicals

Steppin’ Out On Faith Learning Center requires record of up-to-date immunizations and a physical examination completed by a physician or designated health care personnel; for each child admitted into the program. A physical examination must be updated every two years for children 2 1/2 to 6 years of age. Immunization records must be updated according to the schedule provided by the Oakland/Wayne County health department. Parents who object to physical examinations or immunizations because of religious beliefs may request an exemption by providing the necessary written statements, subject to approval of Oakland County Health Department.

Covid-19 Response

Steppin’ Out On Faith….

Is committed to protecting the health of our children, families’ staff and community. The following policies were designed in response to guidance from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. [LARA] and the Department of Health and Human Services, in accordance with best practices from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, and with everyone’s well-being in mind. To limit the potential spread of COVID-19, we will be making some temporary changes to our programming that includes robust cleaning procedures, disinfecting procedures and minimizing opportunities for person-to-person exposure [e.g., an infected person spreading respiratory droplets through actions such as coughing, sneezing, or talking]. The following plan outlines the recommended practices and strategies will use to protect the health of our children, staff, and families while at the same time ensuring that children are experiencing developmentally appropriate and responsive interactions and environments.

Responding to COVID-19 symptoms on site:

If a child or staff member has a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit and/or symptoms such as persistent cough, difficulty breathing, chills, diarrhea, or vomiting, they will be sent home immediately with the recommendation to contact their primary care physician/medical provider. If anyone shows emergency warning signs [e.g. trouble breathing, persistent pain/pressure in chest, new confusion, inability to wake or stay awake, or bluish lips or face], we will seek medical care immediately.

If a child develops symptoms during care hours:

  • Parents will be contacted for prompt pick-up

  • The child will be isolated from other children and as many staff as possible [the child will not be left alone]

  • The child will wait with the following designed staff member[s] Mrs. Neal or Ms. Asia

  • The child and designated staff member will wait in, isolation in the office

  • Other procedures including area effected will be sanitize completely.

Reporting Exposure:

If a child, staff member, family member, or visitor to our program shows COVID-19 symptoms of test positive for the virus, we will contact our local health department and licensing consultant. Based on the guidance of the local health department, will determine whether to close individual classrooms or our facility, the duration of the closure, and other next steps. When communicating with families and staff about any COVID-19 cases, we will respect the privacy of individuals and not share health information of a specific person.
